Tonight your humble correspondent reports  from the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Armed with an array of scientific gizmos and other devices of hedonistic enjoyment.

 Meteors, Macanudo and The Macallen

It’s that time of year again. The annual Perseid meteor shower peaks over the next night or two, so this is the best time to go out and look.Every August the Earth passes through the debris from the comet Swift-Tuttle, forming the Perseids meteor shower. They’re called the Perseids because they appear to come from the sky in the constellation of Perseus.

This year ,an extra special treat…. Thanks to the good folks who support Space Weather radio we can listen to the echos of these meteors  . They are captured on Air Force Space surveillance Radar. Extra cool.(God Bless the United States Air Force in general and one very important Air Force family in particular). Listen to the dharma here. Spoiler: the meteors sing whale songs. that sometimes sound like sirens.  Remarkable !!

The best viewing is past midnight till right before dawn-  This link is a good guide-

You dont need equipment, just be in a dark place, be patient, get comfortable and look up.  Also Venus, Jupiter and the crescent moon will all be visible this year too !

My approach to this years visit with the Perseid meteors is gonna be  smoking a premium Macanudo Rothschild , drinking fine single malt scotch whisky  and  listening to the music of the spheres.
